Finding More Ways To Improve The Environment

I have always been a nature lover, which is one of the reasons I decided to do a lot of traveling right after college. Unfortunately, as I visited different regions across the country and the globe, I was surprised to find that pollution had muddied some of the finest places in the world. I found trash on beaches in Hawaii and oil in the Great Lakes. I knew that I wanted to do something to make a positive change in the world, so I started this blog. Check out this incredible website to find answers to all of your energy and environment questions. You never know, by making a few simple changes, you can make the world a lot better.

Steps For Managing Fall Yard Waste

The leaves of autumn can be a beautiful addition to your home during the fall months. Unfortunately, cleaning up the mess after those leaves fall isn't as fun. Here are some tips for managing fall yard waste at your home.

Step 1: Decide When, and How Often, to Clean Up Yard Waste

Deciding when to clean up fallen leaves is a personal decision. If you wait until the end of the season, when most of the leaves have fallen, you may be able to get all of the leaves cleaned up in one fell swoop. However, there are reasons to keep the leaves at bay throughout the season. Tidiness is one; some homeowners don't like the look of disheveled leaves on their property. Safety is another reason to do regular maintenance. If you have children who want to play in your yard, layers of heavy fallen leaves can obscure hazards such as broken branches or sprinklers and other lawn tools. This leads to additional tripping hazards.

Step 2: Get a Container for Yard Waste

The container you'll need for your yard waste depends on how much square footage there is, and how often you want to haul away fallen leaves. If you are doing the job on a regular basis, you might get away with a regular yard waste receptacle that can be put out alongside your garbage bins and recycling containers. If you have a larger volume of leaves to contain, then a roll off dumpster is the perfect receptacle.

Step 3: Clean Up the Leaves

Plastic bags, rakes, and shovels can all be useful for scooping leaves into their receptacle. If you are using a roll off dumpster, it may be helpful to use a regular garbage can as a bucket that you can transport around the yard and pick up leaves as you go, before emptying the garbage bin into the larger dumpster.

Step 4: Haul the Leaves

You have a few different options for hauling away unwanted yard waste. If you rent a roll off dumpster, they would be able to pick up the container and haul the waste to an appropriate recycling facility. Some companies allow you to haul your own yard waste as well, which can save you money.

Step 5: Catch the Stragglers

Even if you do a great job of cleaning up, you might still have some stragglers that have yet to fall. Set a date in the future for follow-up so that you can clean up these additional fallen leaves.
